Vyacheslav Utochkin
Vyacheslav Utochkin was born on St. Valentine’s Day, February 14, 1984. He fell in love with reading in early childhood, starting with short stories and novellas by O. Henry and Jack London – two American authors that Russians hold in especially high regard. And when he turned eight, his dad gave him The Stainless Steel Rat by Harry Harrison and Conan the Barbarian by Robert E. Howard. Since then, Vyacheslav has been voraciously consuming all the fantasy and science fiction books he could lay his hands on.
By the age of twenty, he couldn’t stop dreaming about writing his own books - but life inevitably interfered. Finally, sixteen years ago he stumbled upon game design. Instead of writing novels, Vyacheslav got busy channeling his talent into computer games. He even penned a textbook on game design – that’s instead of writing fantasy stories!
It all changed in 2022 when his father – who’d cultivated Vyacheslav’s love for fantasy worlds – finally retired. They started writing together – and what started as a hobby grew into something much bigger as their Duke Bearish series began to gather thousands of readers.
Father and son write in freehand, filling paper notebooks with stories which Utochkin Jr. then transfers to his computer. His formula is simple: a lighthearted fast paced story with non-stop action and lots of laughs – basically, the kind of book he himself would like to read. And with his professional skill, his books just might become the next computer game one of these days.
