Nikolai Skiba

Nikolai Skiba was born in 1988 in the Republic of Sakha (Yakutia), where the winters are very severe. In this kingdom of ice and snow, he spent countless hours reading and becoming engulfed in fantasy worlds. Soon, he began to create his own.

But writing would be relegated to the back burner for many years as Nikolai jumped from one job to another to make ends meet. Throughout all that time, one thing remained constant: he would make up stories and write them down on scraps of paper. But he couldn’t seem to synthesize them into something bigger.

The desire to write rankled on and on within Nikolai. Finally, in 2018, he became so obsessed that he managed to write a book. It didn’t turn out very good. He found he had a lot to learn.

At last, after much study, in November 2024, Nikolai returned to writing for good. For him, most important is creating stories that readers enjoy; that make them identify with the characters. That is his goal and his reward. He believes in hard work and justice, and is eager to share his stories with the world.

The air smells of pine. It’s July, and I am surrounded by taiga. I’m a gamekeeper and I know it like the back of my own hand. I’m out for boar today.

Then suddenly a shot is heard, and everything goes dark.

When I awake, I’m… seventeen, and my name is now Max. I’m a sickly kid that everyone around here avoids like the plague.

My hands bear the crimson tattoos of a Huntsman. I have to capture my first pet, survive, and help my family. I have to get my bearings in this insane world - a world where people hide behind flimsy walls and fight for survival, and the woods are filled with magical creatures.

I will learn how to be a Huntsman. I will use all my knowledge. With my experience, and the Animal Code, that shouldn’t be difficult. After all, the woods are the woods - you just have to know how to read them. And I do that better than I do anything else.
