Vlad Vasylenko

Vlad Vasylenko is a contemporary Russian author born and raised in Siberia. He wrote his first novels—science fiction action adventures set against a cosmic backdrop—while still a teenager. Those early manuscripts were acquired by one of Russia’s largest publishing houses, though this initial success did not immediately lead to a full-time literary career. Over the following decade, Vasylenko worked in journalism, marketing, copywriting, blogging, and video production, and also taught at school. Throughout these years, writing remained a passionate pursuit rather than a profession.

Everything changed when he began publishing his work online, releasing chapters as they were written. This dynamic format—propelled by reader feedback and early commercial success—encouraged him to devote himself entirely to fiction.

Vasylenko is now the author of multiple novel series. He first gained recognition in the LitRPG genre, though in recent years he has moved beyond game-centered narratives. His latest project, the Eye of Winter series, blends alternative history, detective fiction, and urban fantasy rooted in Siberian folklore. Set in an alternate Russian Empire in the early 1900s, the series envisions a magical anomalous zone that has engulfed much of Siberia, where power belongs to the Nephilim—humans whose supernatural abilities have awakened.

He awakens in a world not his own—and in another man’s body—with only fragments of memory and no way back. He is now Bogdan Vasilevsky, the illegitimate son of a mage-healer in an alternate Russian Empire at the dawn of the twentieth century.

In this world, power belongs to those who control “edra”—a mysterious force capable of reshaping flesh, mind, and even destiny itself. Its source is the Eye of Winter, a vast anomalous zone that appeared in Siberia three centuries ago and continues to spread. The Eye devours the land in endless frost and breeds monstrous creatures, yet is also a wellspring of immense power and priceless magical resources.

From his first days in this new life, danger closes in. His father is murdered. Suspicion falls on him. He has only one choice: to flee east.

In Tomsk, a frontier city on the edge of the anomaly, he attempts to build a new life. He forges his first friendships and begins to master the Gift awakening within him.

But peace evades him. His father’s enemies are closing in. And the power growing inside him may prove as dangerous to him as to anyone else.

The Eye of Winter is a fast-paced urban fantasy set in an alternate early twentieth century—a story of survival, ambition, and self-discovery in a world ruled by the Nephilim, humans with supernatural abilities.
